Dear China Holidays

Well here we are back from China after a fantastic holiday!

Where do I start????  Our guide was Nancy Hou, she was brilliant and such a nice girl, I could have taken her home with me. She cried when we left!!! I hope she keeps in touch.  The Great Wall really blew me away, I couldn't believe I was actually standing on it.  It appears that it is much quieter at Mutianyu than where the rest of the group went, I am really glad that we went to a different part.  We joined the group for dinner that evening (Baz's birthday) and China Holidays had organised a cake and wine and we had a brilliant evening.  Another high, as I am sure you can imagine, was the Terracotta warriors.  Again blown away! The farmer that had discovered them was on site that day signing books so we obviously had to get one.  We were assured by our local guide Candy that he was genuine, could have been anyone for all we knew!!!

The Li river cruise was great and now I know where the pictures I bought in Habitat were taken!!!  The buffet lunch was a bit hit and miss here, the Chinese are like vultures when it comes to food, it was amazing to watch, and entertaining.

Shanghai was a bit of a let down due to all the refurbishment for Expo 2010, most of the bund was closed but we still managed to see quite a bit.

In the end there were 11 of us in the group, 2 dropped out at the last minute due to health reasons.  11 was a good number though and we all got on very well, a mixed range of ages but that was immaterial.  We have had a few emails from the couple from France and I need to send them some pics.

Sanya was lovely and very relaxing, thank goodness!! I think we only left the hotel for about 2 hours the whole time we were there.  We just revelled in the luxury and peace and quiet and not having to get up at the crack of dawn.  The hotel was amazing and practically empty.  We had the whole pool to ourselves on quite a number of occasions.  It is a hotel I would recommend.

Hong Kong was very wet.  The afternoon we arrived was fine but the next day it poured all day and we got soaked.  It was also the day that we got the bad news about Baz's mum so that really put a damper on things. (It was expected but still not good)

I could go on and on, but everything was great. Organisation, meals, travel was all organised very well.  Had a bit of a hitch in Shanghai with the guide there but we all made our feelings felt and am sure reported it back to China Holidays.  Flight home was uneventful and now back in work and in the swing of things.

Thanks for all your help, it really was appreciated.

My very best wishes
Gill x

Dear Beijing Team,

All the arrangements of the tour were excellent. Your selection of cities to visit was very good; we have now in a short time period been able to get an impression of China and its rapid developent process.

We have recommended you to other frinds that wouold like to travel to China.

Thank you and all the best, Wiking and gunilla.

Particularly impressed with the executive breakfast room recommended by guide on 16 floor which provided marvellous views over Beijing.

All the tours were excellent except for the Ming Tombs tour which was a little disappointing as the tombs lacked focus and interest. Can the authorities not come up with something better than a series of red wooden boxes as the centre piece? Also enjoyed the Kung Fu show

An exceptionally focused and well organised guide who made clear from the offset that our enjoyment was his objective and who then fulfilled his objective. In retrospect he stands out as the best of all our guides.

All the meals were excellent, enhanced by the thoughtful way the guide had arranged each venue to give us a very varied experience of Chinese cuisine.

Excellent facilities but the view from the hotel window which was at the rear of the building was disappointing as it was overlooking;an empty building site.

Terracotta warriors tour was excellent and the undoubted highlight of this part of the holiday. We also enjoyed the Huaging Hot Springs – particularly as in retrospect it proved to be one of the unique elements of the whole tours.
It would be helpful if the number of temple or mosque visits could be managed at an overall level to ensure that tourists only see the best;Once we had seen one temple/mosque there was little to be gained from seeing more.

A pleasant relaxed guide – but perhaps too relaxed.
Would benefit from a little more interest and drive
Meals

Meals were good.
The Dumpling Dinner was too specialist (single topic- too many dumplings in one go for our taste). Similarly the Muslim lunch was too different for our taste.
Dinner on first night (after flying from Beijing) not necessary – we were too tired.

The Yu Garden was an oasis in a very busy city. We enjoyed an hour's visit to the Museum and this was sufficient. Enjoyed Acrobatic show in the evening - a good touch particularly as we were tired and welcomed the sit down entertainment.

It was hard to improve on the everyday 3 Gorge views but the lesser gorge tour was exceptional. The other   visits, (the dam and Fengdu) were less impressive and of less interest. The onboard activities were all excellent.
Add an optional visit to the 3 Gorge dam generating site to spice up that tour.

The Li Valley cruise was excellent and the highlight of this part of the holiday. Enjoyed the side visits to see a rice farmer preparing and planting his crop and the night time cruise on the Guilin lakes (both arranged by our 2 guides).
Our trip to the top of one of the highest mountains by chair lift was disappointing as the weather was poor so the visibility non existent and the cost was expensive. The guide's advice on this occasion would have been appreciated!
Add seeing a rice farmer managing his crop to the itinery.

Also consider adding the night time cruise on the Guilin lake.

Both were excellent.

Pan was an excellent guide - discreet with his very informative interventions when on the cruise and helpful in arranging for us to see the rice farmer.

Jenny was also helpful and suggested the night time cruise on the Guilin lake but a little self-centred.

Again we didn't have the dinner on first night (after flying from Chongqing) – we were too tired. I think this meal is not necessary.

Ideally positioned with great facilities. However, we upgraded to rooms with a view over the harbour which may influence our judgement.

We have had a superb holiday which we attribute largely
to China Tours' planning, preparation and management – well done.

In particular we want to thank Jenny Chen who was patience personified helping with all our queries and providing what proved to be very useful advice and help.
