Shidong Miao Village
Shidong is a small Miao village about 1.5 hours to the north-east of Kaili, situated on the banks of the Qingshui River. It is worth a visit year round for its inexpensive silverware and embroidery and for the town market, which is held every six days. However, it is best known for its role as the host of the the Sisters' Meal Festival, held on the 15th of the third lunar month.
The Sisters' Rice Festival (sister's meal festival) in Shidong brings villagers from many remote mountain areas together in search of a mate. A kaleidoscope of colors, local customs and traditions, signature costumes and hairstyles provide a never-ending fashion show. The Sisters' Rice Festival is sometimes called Sisters' Meal Festival or Eat Sisters' Rice Festival.
Besides the Sisters' Meal Festival you can™t miss the distinguishing feature goods there. Miao silver (Miaozuyinshi), Hmong embroidery (Miaozucixiu) and Hmong cross-stitch (Miaozutiaohua) are porcelain made by hands. You can experience a special rural life there drink Ilex and eat Autumn Pear (Jinqiuli).
