Song Royal Street
Song Royal Street is located at the north section of Zhongshan Road in Kaifeng, Henan Province. It was built in 1988 to display the Royal Street in Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). The original Royal Street started from Xuande Gate of Imperial Palace and ended in Nanxun Gate in the outer city with a total length of over 5km. The street was reserved for Emperor use only in ancient times. Each year, the emperor went through the street for sacrificial ceremony in south suburb of the capital city or left the city for a trip.
The new Royal street is 400 metres long and has Song-style architecture in both sides of the street. There are more than 50 stores selling paintings, handicrafts, traditional goods, local products of Kaifeng, etc. Walking in the royal street, you have a good feeling of how Kaifeng was like one thousand years ago and the prosperity of the city famed at that time.
