Tiger Hill, known also as Haiyong Hill, is arguably the most famous scenic spot in Suzhou situated in the north west of Suzhou. Climbing it, you will find a number of historical sites some of which can be traced back over 2500 years to the founding of Suzhou. Although the hill is relatively small, it has a rich history. Below are just some of the highlights of what is to be found there.
The Yunyan Pagoda, also known as the Leaning Pagoda, stands on top of the hill. Today this 1000-year-old pagoda has become a symbol of Suzhou. Another attraction at Tiger hill is the Sword Pool (Jianchi). King He Lu was a famous warrior and sword collector who was buried here. The Sword Pond is said to hold He Lu's treasured swords in its watery depths. But the site has never been excavated because the Leaning Pagoda's foundations rest on it.
There can be little doubt that Tiger Hill is a wonderful sight with its leaning pagoda, waterfalls and landscaped paths. It is hard to believe that it was originally built to be the burial place of the king.
You can also visit other sceneries here like Lu Yu Well, Verdant Mountain Villa and Wanjing Villa.
