I visited many palaces in China and the Summer Palace impressed me the most. We went there in the early summer. The weather was comfortable when it was neither cold nor hot.

The first impression the Summer Palace left on me was its size. I walked from the early morning until its close time and still couldn’t travel through every place.

The lake was tranquil and sparkling in the sunshine.

I love its lotus pond most. The lotus was blossoming and some dragonflies were flying over it or standing on their petals. A poetry written by Yang Wanli, a poet in Tang Dynasty came into my mind. It quotes:

A Small Pond

From fountainheads water streaks out thin and quiet.

Soft and Sunny are trees reflected in the pond.

A slim lotus leaf, not yet unfurled, scarcely appears.

When on its pointed tip a dragonfly is alighted.
