Nanjing

Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province and former capital for 10 ancient dynasties, is located on the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is situated in the northern subtropical monsoon climate zone but the four seasons are clearly identifiable. It covers an area of 6,516 sq km and has a population of 5,200,000. The famous interesting places are:

Yangtze River Bridge

Crossing over the Yangtze River, the bridge is located in the northwest of the city. It was the first double deck and double track highway and railway bridge designed and constructed by the Chinese themselves. The construction of the bridge started in 1961 and finished in 1968.

Xuan Wu Lake

The lake lies northeast of the city and used to be the drilling camp of the imperial navy. The lake has five islands which are connected by bridges or mounds that make the lake attractive.

Confucian Temple

Confucian Temple is a holy shrine of Confucias and known as the Fuzimiao in Chinese. The temple was first built in 1034 in the Song dynasty (960–1729) and has the largest screen wall in China.

Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen

The mausoleum is situated at the foot of the Mount Zijin. The construction of the tomb started in 1926. Dr. Sun was buried there in 1929 – he is widely regarded as the Father of Modern China.
