Handan Travel Guide
Handan is a medium-sized city located in the southern part of Hebei Province in China. The city administration governs four districts, the city itself and 14 counties. The entire administered area covers an area of 12,000 square kilometres with the main urban area covering 434 square kilometres. The city has a total population of 99.31 million (2013 year). In the past, it was the capital of the Zhou Kingdom. The city has a history of more than 2,500 years, and is considered one of China's historical and cultural cities. There are many archaeological sites and ancient places of interest.
Handan has had civilisation for at least 7,000 years. As an old city with thousands of years of history, Handan has inherited a rich cultural heritage, such as Chinese idioms and legends, folk arts, such as Buddhist temple music, Shan Gu Wu (dance with fans and drums), and Yongnian Tai Chi (a style of Tai Chi originating in Yongnian County).
Handan has many places for you to tour and enjoy, including as many as 400 cultural heritage sites and 100 important attractions. Recommended visits include Wuling Cong Tai Terrace, the Golden Millet Dream, Lu Xian Ancestral Hall, Toddler Bridge, Xiangtangshan Grottoes, Zhao Wang City and Huche Lane.
