Testimonials

Dear China Holidays:

China Holidays is the perfect company to help with the full Chinese experience and holiday arrangements. It is difficult getting around in China if you don't speak Chinese and the guides and drivers are excellent. The Mecure hotel in Beijing is a very good, centrally located hotel and they have English speaking people at the reception/front desk. Throughout our trip everyone was very friendly and extremely helpful and courteous. We were so pleased to have met them all and to have had such wonderful experiences. .......

Transportation

Airport - Hong Kong International Airport is just north of Lantau Island on Chek Lap Kok Island. Be sure to drop by the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) and pick up a map of the city, sightseeing brochures and hotel information. The easiest way to get to Kowloon and Central is to take the Airport Express train, tickets are HK $100 and it's a quick trip to the heart of Hong Kong.

Bus - Hong Kong's bus system is thorough and well run, but unless you know Chinese, it'll be difficult to navigate. It's better to stick to the MTR.

Star Ferry in Hong KongFerry - The famous Star Ferry goes between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Inexpensive and convenient, it's one of the best ways to get a close-up view of Victoria Harbour and the classic Hong Kong skyline.

Subway - Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is a boon for visitors. It's fast, relatively cheap and will get you to most places in Hong Kong. The four lines are color-color coded and buying tickets are a cinch using the bilingual machines.

Taxi - Taxis in HongKong are relatively expensive for all but short jaunts. Flag-fall is HK$15, but quickly adds up on the meter. There's a HK$5 surcharge per piece of luggage and for calling taxis by phone. Crossing tunnels will also add surcharges, HK$20 for the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, HK$30 for the Eastern Harbour Crossing, HK$45 for the Western Harbor Tunnel and HK$5 for the Aberdeen Tunnel.

Train – The Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) is fast and cheap and signs are in both Chinese and English. It runs from the Hung Hom Station near Tsim Sha Tsui East to the Shueng Shui at the border with Shenzhen. Hung Hom station is also the place to board China bound trains.

Tram - Tramlines are found only along the north of Hong Kong Island, the fare is HK$2. The tram to Victoria Peak crawls its way up the steep slope to one of Hong Kong's main attractions. Two-way tickets are HK$30 for adults and HK$9 for children.
