Nature still rules in Hong Kong even though it's hard to see it in Central or Kowloon. It can get incredibly hot and humid in Hong Kong and it'll rain endlessly during the monsoon season, which is usually between May to September. In Central it's possible to get almost anywhere via tunnels and covered walkways and you'll probably walk through air-conditioned buildings. However, take the heat and humidity into consideration if you're planning a hike in the New Territories. Hong Kong has the mildest temperatures and best weather in November and December.

Most people in Hong Kong can speak basic English and shopping will be a breeze whether in large department stores or bargaining in the markets. Not all stores accept RMB, so it'll be more convenient to convert your RMB into Hong Kong dollars. English newspapers and magazines are widely available in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is home to many consulates so it's a good place to pick up visas. Apply for visas to China at any travel agent. Be aware that entering Hong Kong from Chinese mainland invalidates your Chinese visa, unless it's a multiple entry visa, and you'll have to apply for a new visa to reenter Chinese mainland. Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China under the One Country, Two Systems policy so visa requirements are different from the Chinese mainland. Holders of passports from Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand and most Western European countries don't require visas.
