Over the years Hua Shan has become more tourist-friendly. A little village has sprouted at the foot of Hua Shan with over 25 stalls offering refreshments and local dishes. Some Hua Shan specialties include: wheat pastry with vegetables, qiaomai liangfen a type of cold noodle that looks like a thick flat vermicelli but is usually made with potato powder, buckwheat noodles and a sweet steamed pumpkin filled with rice, raisins, plums, peanuts, lotus and walnuts called babao nangua.
If you're up the mountain, any hotel will whip up a delicious meal, but be prepared to pay up to four times more. Try chicken cooked with sweet sauce and peppers, stir fried beef with capsicum, leafy vegetables with mushroom topped with oyster sauce at the Hua Shan North Peak Hotel.
Many small restaurants can also be found in Yuquan Lu. |
