Shopping and Souvenirs

Much of the souvenirs available in Lijiang are related to the ethnic groups that populate the area. Hot items include copperware, leather and fur goods, carpets and rugs, and painted scrolls with poems written in calligraphy. Yunnan is also known for its flora and fauna, many of which are used in teas or medicines. The cryptic Yunnan White Power, also known as "Hundred Treasures Drug," purportedly treats anti-inflammation and gynecological ailments. There are also many varieties of Yunnan teas available: white orchid, jasmine, smoked tea, Xuanchun, Hongbao and Yinzhen. Yongsheng porcelain is transparent and the colors are light and elegant. Carved wooden plates are tastefully simple. Hand woven hand-weaved cloths are another local specialty.

Some places to do your shopping include the Baixin Department Store on Minzhu Lu and Fuzihao for Chinese knots at 28 Mishi Xiang, Xinyi Street. Artist Tang Xingsheng, who specializes in Naxi art, manages Juyiyuan Wenhua Shangdian, it's over at 74 Mishi Yuan, Xinyi Jie.
