Shenzhen doesn't have much to offer in terms of homegrown specialties or tourist shopping, but the theme parks in the Overseas Chinese City sell minority souvenirs, such as food, clothes, electric products, which shows strong local characteristics and culture. Migrants from all over China bring products from their hometowns so there are a great variety of things to buy.
Many visitors from Hong Kong go to Shenzhen on a regular basis to do their shopping. Starting from the train station, Luohu is a bustling port of restaurants, shops and massage salons. The Luohu Business Centre is teeming with cheap clothing, footwear and accessories booths interspersed with massage and manicure salons. Hard bargaining is the rule here and don't hesitate to slice the price to one third of what's offered. Dong Men is packed with shopping malls and individual booths flaunting an inexhaustible array of the latest Cantopop, Korean and Japanese fashions as well as a kaleidoscope of knick-knacks at bargain prices.
The Tongbao Secondhand Market is a reminiscent of a giant flea market where furniture, computers and electronic products are up for grabs, but the real gem is the area adjourning the market which is jam packed with booths selling left over clothes, toys and towers from export orders as well as CDs and DVDs. CITIC City Plaza is a first class shopping arcade housing. The flashy glass structure is opposite the Municipal Government building and has an expansive piazza with fountains. High-end name brand products are on offer and the various shop displays are eye-catching. You can finish your shopping spree with a coffee in Starbucks on the ground floor. |
