Tianjin enjoys temperate weather and four distinct seasons a year with spring and autumn being the best time to visit. Autumn is especially nice when the leaves change color and the weather hasn't yet turned too cold. It's the coldest in January and hottest in July. Bring a sweater or jacket if you come in spring or autumn and a very warm coat in winter. It's also pretty wet during the spring and summer, so bring rain gear.

A week of college boat races on Haihe River are held on October 2. Students race dragon boats and perform variety shows. For ten days during the Ocean Fair, which is held in late-June, there's more aquatic entertainment such as heading out to sea to do some fishing then eating your catch with a fishing family. The Ocean Fair is held at Tanggu.
