Shopping and Souvenirs

Longtou Lu, on Gulangyu, is full of souvenir shops where you can buy Chinese calligraphy and paintings, lovely teapots and tea sets, puppets and dried seafood. Souvenirs unique to Xiamen include gold plated lacquer ware, pearl embroidery and Wenxing porcelain.

Zhongshan Lu is the liveliest street in Xiamen; it's full of locals and tourists, shops and supermarkets. Most buildings date to the early 20th century, with buildings of two or three stories high. The first floor is usually where the shops are located and the upper floors used as residences.

Next to the railway station is the World Trade Center, a modern shopping mall with a strong international presence. Walmart, Printemps, McDonalds and KFC are all located here.

Trendy Xiamen residents go to Hexiang Xi Lu for their shopping forays. Traditional Chinese clothes, music stores featuring the latest hits and elegant furniture stores line the street and set the trend.
