HK visitor arrivals dip 8.1 percent in Feb

Hong Kong saw an 8.1 percent year-on-year drop in visitors in February to 2.16 million, bringing the cumulative arrivals for this year's first two months to 4.96 million, 1.8 percent ahead of the same period last year, the Hong Kong's Tourism Board says on Monday.


Arrivals from the Mainland dropped 6.7 percent to 1.35 million. About 57.5 pct arrived under the Individual Visit Scheme, 9.6 percent less than the same period last year.


Falls were recorded in other markets including Taiwan (-17.3 percent), North Asia (-14.4 percent), Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific (-10.8 percent), the Americas (-11.4 percent), and Europe, Africa and the Middle East (-11.7 percent).


About 58.3 pct of visitors stayed in the city for at least one night, 0.7 of a percentage point lower than the same month last year.


Hotel occupancy was 76 percent, 4 percentage points lower than last year. The average achieved hotel room rate was 1,014 HK dollars, about 10.4 percent lower than the same month last year.
