Tibet will focus on promoting its three world-class scenic spots, namely, the Potala Palace, Mt. Qomolangma and the Yarlung Zangbo Canyon, in a move to spur the winter tourism.

During the promotion period from November to March 31,2010, Tibet's tourism administrative departments will coordinate with other tourist sectors such as tourist agencies, hotels and airlines in introducing services at lower prices based on the three world-class tourist attractions, said Wang Songping, deputy director of the Tibet's Tourism Bureau.

Wang added: "The Guangdong Office of the China International Travel Service and the China Eastern Airlines have opened the air route from Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, to Nyingchi in southeastern Tibet with a fairly low ticket price. Meanwhile, entrance tickets for scenic sites in Lhasa, Nyingchi and Xigaze will drop by 50 percent during that period."

Winter tourism in Tibet is believed to give visitors experience different from in golden seasons. The "holy city" of Lhasa in the winter is always bathed in sunshine; tourists need not bother to endure the crowdedness in the peak season and buy tickets more conveniently.

With the opening of the highways from Lhasa to Xigaze's Tingri County, visitors to Mt. Qomolangma can enjoy a closer view of the magnificent mountain at the Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp.

The Midui Glacier, known as China's most beautiful glacier, will also feast the eyes of those visiting to Nyingchi's Bome County.
