Harbin, where Europe meets the east

One of the most prosperous cities of northeast China, Harbin has been nicknamed the "Paris of the East" for its western style architecture and cityscape decorations.

Aside from being one of the earliest cities to introduce western commerce and welcome European immigrants, Harbin is also home to many tourism resorts of historical and architectural importance, among which the business streets Central Street and Guogeli Street are best known. Antique shops selling imported souvenirs and modern shopping malls line the streets, offering a glimpse into Harbin's international character. Standing fifty three meters tall, St. Sophia Church is the largest Eastern Orthodox Church in the Far East, and one of the wonders of Harbin's Central Street.

Despite the influence of western trade and culture, Harbin locals never forget to stick to their own customs. Once in Harbin, tourists should take advantage of the variety of fresh mountain produce such as mushrooms, hazel and game meat.

With western buildings to admire and tasty food to fill your stomach, Harbin is a place to relax and take in the world.
