Memorial Hall of Lin Zexu

Lin Zexu

Memorial Hall of Lin Zexu

Situated in the border economic cooperation zone in Yining, the Memorial Hall of Lin Zexu occupies an area of 10,000 square meters, including 2,000 square meters of gross floor area. The 800-square-meter exhibition room features 12 historical records, such as a map of China during the Opium War in 19th Century, a map of Xinjiang during Middle Qing Dynasty and pictures of Lin Zexu's former residence. The exhibits also include introductions about the revered man's life, his paintings, replicas of relevant materials, photos and personal effects. The photos, paintings and charts are aimed at reflecting four major periods in Lin's life. These periods include his formative years, his ambitions for the government, his advocacy for banning the opium trade, his involvement in the Opium War against the British, his demotion to Xinjiang after the war and his commemoration by the locals. The memorial hall demonstrates the gratitude shown to him from all the ethnic groups in Ili as a national hero. The memorial hall also serves as an education center for patriotism and revolutionary history.
