More citizens ready to spring away

Nearly 39,400 Shanghai people will leave the country during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, about 10 percent more than last year, the Shanghai Tourist Administration reported.

And more Shanghai people will travel outside the city during the festival although the number of incoming tourists will be about the same as last year, according to the administration.

Travel agents said despite the economic recession, local consumers who have become used to spending money on travel will not change their ways.

According to the Ctrip.com, Japan-bound tours are costing 15 percent more than last year's Spring Festival tours because of the exchange rate for the Japanese yen but the number of bookings is still up 70 percent.
