Taiwan achieved NTD850 mln during festival

An official from Taiwan's tourism department has disclosed to local media that a total of 509 tourist groups with a total of about 13,400 tourists from the Chinese mainland visited Taiwan during the seven-day Chinese New Year and this brought the Island about NTD850 million in tourism revenue.

Zhang Xicong, a director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau, stated that about 60% of the mainland tourists chose the eight-day-seven-night round-the-island trip during the Spring Festival period; and on January 26 alone — the first day of the lunar new year — Taiwan received more than 3,000 tourists from the mainland.

Statistics showed that during the Spring Festival, most Chinese mainland tourists chose to visit the Sun Moon Lake and Ali Mountain and the number of Chinese tourists going to the two scenic spots reached 12,647 and 10,690 respectively. In addition, the tourists were also interested in such cultural spots as Taipei's Palace Museum.
