6 Days Yunnan Tour with Chengjiang Biota Museum

Day 01: Kunming
On your arrival in the morning, you are greeted by your English speaking guide and the driver. Then, transfer to visit the Stone Forest which is a notable set of limestone formations. (No meals)

At 120 km of Kunming city, there stands one of the “World Natural Heritages”- Stone Forest, also called Shilin. In the Stone Forest, stone peaks rise abruptly from the ground in numerous layers like bamboo shoots, forests and pagodas, hence all visitors to Kunming from home and abroad never hesitate to admire the unique scenes formed by the stones.

Day 02: Kunming /Lijiang
In the morning visit the World Heritage Site-- Chengjiang Biota Museum. It contains the descendents of more than 200 species of marine creatures dated back to 525 million years ago. In the late afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lijiang. (B+L)

Chengjiang Biota Museum, founded in 1984, is the most varieties assemblage of Early Cambrian marine fossils known. This diverse in the range of organisms shows clues to rapid evolution during the Cambrian Explosion and reveals the new information on life style in a complex ancient ecological system. The Chengjiang deposit, and a little younger Burgess Shale, both exhibit important guides to diversity and evolutionary rates during the early Phanerozoic diversification event known as the Cambrian “explosion.” As we try to understand the situation surrounding exceptional preservation generally, not just during the Cambrian, Chengjiang provides an important and different perspective on depositional conditions.

Day 03: Lijiang
Full day tour to explore the Yufengsi Lamasery and the Jade Spring Park which is known as ‘The Black Dragon Pond’. (B+L)

Yufeng or named Jade Peak Temple, one of the most famous lama temples in Lijiang, it is at the southern foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and 13kms northwest away from the Old Town. The whole Yufeng Temple shows a distinctive and conjunct architectural style of Han Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Taoism and the local Naxi Dongba Religion due to the cultural communion between different minorities and different areas in the Qing Dynasty.

Jade Spring Park is one of Lijiang's loveliest in-town attractions. The park encloses the spring-fed Black Dragon Pool reflectively still and often the clarity and color of fine jade. Traditional architectural works—bridges, pagodas, and the like—dot the edge of the pond. The Dongba Culture Museum by the park's northern entrance displays the traditional art, garb and more of the Naxi minority and modern decorative graffiti can be found around Suocui Bridge.

Day 04: Lijiang/Dali
Take the big coach to Dali. Arrive at Dali and visit the Erhai Lake, it is one of the seven biggest fresh water lakes in China. This afternoon visit the Butterflies’ Fountain. (B+L)

Erhai Lake is the largest highland lake next to Dianchi and one of the seven biggest fresh water lakes in China. It means, 'sea shaped like an ear', in Chinese. Implying that the lake is ear shaped and as large as a sea, hence it was so named. The lake covers an area of 250 square kilometers and is located about two kilometers east of Dali. It is like a crescent lying between Cangshan and Dali city as seen from Cangshan Mount. In a sunny day, the crystal waters of Erhai Lake and the snow mantled Cangshan Mount radiate with each other. Thus the scene was commonly described as 'Silver Cangshan and Jade Erhai'.

Situated at the foot of Mount Shenmo is the first of the peaks of Mount Cangshan. The spring rises to form a square shaped pool that is shaded by the dense foliage that lines its banks. The pool is about 50 square meters and above it is an ancient decumbent tree. That is the famous 'Butterfly Tree' and its fragrant blossom attracts thousands of butterflies.

Day 05: Dali
In the morning, visit the Three Pagoda Temple. This afternoon is free for you to explore this beautiful town.(B+L)

The Three Pagodas are made of brick and covered with white mud. As its name implies, the Three Pagodas comprise three independent pagodas forming a symmetric triangle. The elegant, balanced and stately style is unique in China’s ancient Buddhist architectures, which makes it a must-see in the tour of Dali. The Three Pagodas, visible from miles away, has been a landmark of Dali City and selected as a national treasure meriting preservation in China.

Day 06: Dali/Kunming
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Kunming. The tour ends upon your arrival in Kunming. (B)
