The Confucius Temple is one of the largest temple complexes in China; it covers an area of 16,000 square metres and has a total of 460 rooms. The last major redesign, following the fire in 1499, took place shortly after the building of the Forbidden City in the Ming Dynasty therefore the architecture of the Temple of Confucius resembles that of the Forbidden City in many ways.

Covering 39 acres, the mansion grounds house boasts 463 buildings such as halls, pavilions, and towers that are divided into three parts. The Eastern part is the family temple, the Western institute and the Central main buildings. The Central part is then divided into two sections with the front being the office and the family residence behind. The garden is located at the back of the residence.

The cemetery contains Confucius' tomb and the remains of more than 100,000 of his descendants. The small house of the Kong family developed into a gigantic aristocratic residence, of which 152 buildings remain. The Qufu complex of monuments has retained its outstanding artistic and historic character due to the devotion of successive Chinese emperors over more than 2,000 years.

Mt. Tai is located in Taian City, the centre of Shandong Province. It occupies a total area of 426 square kilometers and is found on the Northern China Plateau. Mt. Tai was formed in ancient times and is among one of the most ancient mountains in China. Mt. Tai faces the sea in the east and backs on to the yellow river to the west, hence it was the centre of politics, economics and culture of eastern China for thousands of years. Even after thousands of years more than 20 ancient buildings and 2000 cultural sites have survived. It really is the symbol and pride of China.
