It still controls the waters of the Minjiang River and distributes it to the fertile farmland of the Chengdu plains. It wasn't the only landmark in China's development of water management and technology but also ancient China's great advances in science and technology. Drive to Bifengxia Giant Panda Base in the early morning. It is the biggest one in southwest China's Sichuan province. Unlike the Chengdu city, Bifengxia is quite cool temperature in summer due to its high altitude, so giant panda can keep active there, as they dislike hit. If you are lucky enough you may find a Giant Panda in the wild when hiking in the nature reserve. In the afternoon, you can do the volunteer work, such as cleaning the enclosure of the panda and preparing the food for the panda, etc.

Day 4 : Yaan/Leshan/Qianwei

Leave Yaan for Leshan Giant Buddha in the morning. Situated at the confluence of Minjiang, Qingyi and Dadu rivers, on the western slope of Lingyun Mountain east of Leshan City, the sitting Giant Buddha (Maitreya) is carved into a cliff overlooking the three rivers. Legend has it that an eminent monk Hai Tong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) often saw boats capsize in the turbulent river. Shipwrecks were a common place. Wishing to protect passing boats and tame the rough river currents, the monk vowed to build a Buddha.

On the way will have a rest about 20 mins in the Tianfu stop-off point, where there are some tea terraces for tourists to have a watch. After arriving at Leshan, take boat first to get the best eye-view of the Giant Buddha on the river and then have a travel to Lingyun Temple to get closer to the Giant Buddha. In the late afternoon, drive to the Qianwei County and stay one night there.

Day 5 : Qianwei/Chengdu

Take the Mini steam engine train to enjoy the simple and remote countryside, which is very interesting. Mini steam engine train carrying tourists and villagers runs in Qianwei County, southwest China's Sichuan Province. Built in 1958, the mini steam engine train with a narrow rail gauge, used to be a coal transportation. Later, added some passengers carriages, it became the major transportation for local villagers living in and around the mountainous Bagou town and Shixi town. As the steam trains disappear in the world, more and more tourists from home and abroad came here to visit the mini steam engine train for fun. After lunch, you will be driven back to Chengdu in the afternoon.
