Day 01 Beijing
On arrival in Beijing transfer to the 4*Novotel Beijing Xinqiao Hotel for 3 nights. This evening take a stroll through Tiananmen Square to see Mao's Mausoleum and the Monument to the People's Heroes, symbolically right in front of the former imperial palace, the Forbidden City. Welcome dinner. D
Day 02 Beijing
Walk along one of the most dramatic sections of the Great Wall of China that snakes across the rugged mountain landscape. Also tread along the Sacred Road, the road to heaven that leads to the Ming Tombs where the emperors are buried. Back in the city, enjoy Beijing's most popular dish, Peking Duck. B/L/D
Day 03 Beijing
From Tiananmen Square enter the Forbidden City, home to the Emperors for 500 years, and gaze around the grand ceremonial halls and peek into the private family quarters. Later stroll through the elegant formal gardens of the Summer Palace, and admire the famous Marble Boat. B/L/D
Day 04 Beijing / Xian
Visit the magnificent red and gold Temple of Heaven that was built for the Emperor, the son of Heaven, to make sacrifices for a good harvest, then fly to Xian for 2 nights at the 4*Bell Tower Hotel. B/L/D
Day 05 Xian
See the 7,000 Terracotta Soldiers that have stood guard over China's first emperor for over 2,200 years, and they still stand in battle formation in giant exhibition halls erected around the pits where they were discovered in the 1970s. This afternoon see Xian's immense City Wall complete with towers and battlements, and tonight we are guests at the Tangs Dynasty show, an enchanting performance of music and dance from another era. Day 06 Xian / Hangzhou
View some of China's finest artefacts at the Provincial Museum - neolithic ceramics painted with scenes of everyday life, bronze swords and statues, gold and silver artwork and ancient wall murals. Fly to Hangzhou for 2 nights at 4*Best Western Meiyuan hotel. B/L/D
Day 07 Hangzhou
Romantic cruise on the scenic West Lake, then visit a traditional pharmacy and an extravagant manor house that belonged to a prosperous 19th century local businessman. Walk along the historic 'Culture' Street. B/L/D
Day 08 Hangzhou / Shanghai
Take a high speed train to Shanghai and transfer to the 4*Shanghai Hotel for two nights. Stroll along the Bund, Shanghai’s riverside promenade with futuristic skyscrapers on one bank and grand 19th century European architecture on the other. B/L/D
Day 09 Shanghai
Admire the very best of China's ancient treasures at the Shanghai Museum. Stroll through Yuyuan Garden, an oasis of calm and beauty in the midst of the bustling city, then visit the Jade Buddha Temple. B/L/D
Day 10 Suzhou
Drive to Suzhou. En route visit the old town of Zhujiajiao which is renowned for its quaint ancient buildings and crisscrossing rivers. Stay two nights at the 4*Suzhou Garden Hotel. B/L/D
Day 11 Suzhou
Visit two of Suzhou's favourite classical gardens, the Humble Administrator's Garden, and the Garden of the Master of the Nets. Admire exquisite handicraft at the Silk Embroidery Institute. B/L/D
Day 12 Nanjing
On the way to Nanjing call at the exquisite waterside Li Gardens at Wuxi, and the vast Taihu Lake with its flowers, trees, bridges and pagodas. Stay 2 nights at the 4*New Century Hotel. B/L/D
Day 13 Nanjing
See the almost majestic mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Republic of China, and visit the Confucius Temple where there are lots of stalls selling local handicrafts and foods. Finally, relax by the island-studded waters of Xuanwu Lake. B/L/D
Day 14 Departure Nanjing
See off at Nanjing Airport.B
