The 72-hour visa-free transit policy in China

Visitors from 45 countries hold the valid visa and plane tickets to the third country can stay in the capital city at Beijing Capital International Airport or Shanghai at Hongqiao and Pudong airports without visa for 72hours, which would be put into effect from 1 Jan, 2013.

How to Check In
Visitors should check in from Beijing Capital International Airport or Hongqiao and Pudong airport. To help with the transit visitors, the airport will improve service facilities in the airport including special visa-free channels. The airport will set up a special service zone for transit visitors in our terminals, offering drinking water and reading materials. Moreover, services including foreign currency exchange, mobile phone rental service, and left-luggage office will be provided for the convenience of tourists.

In Shanghai, the same transit policy was approved by the State Council. Transiting passengers can enter Shanghai through the city’s two airports, Hongqiao and Pudong.

2. As long as visitors hold a ticket to a third country and proof of identity, are entitled to the visa exemption.		2. Foreign visitors are not permitted to leave Beijing or Shanghai to other Chinese cities during the 72 hours, and have to depart from Beijing or Shanghai.
3. The airlines company carry the tourist should apply to the border inspection authorities.	2. Beijing Airport or Shanghai Airport will not accept application of Transit without Visa after the visitor on the plane or landed in the airport.	3. Foreigners have to carry identity documents with them while traveling during the 72 hours, and their documents must be checked by police within 24 hours of their arrival in the city.
4. The policy only takes into effect in Beijing International Airport or Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airport. Visitor who takes train is prohibited.	3.
